Qualified applicants will be responsible for assisting elementary and secondary school children in crossing congested intersections or heavily traveled roads by encouraging patterns of proper crossing behavior by school children; deterring school children, as necessary, from committing unsafe and unlawful act; informing motorists, by appropriate signals, that school children are using, or about to use, the crossing and have the right to proceed; observing and reporting to their supervisor incidents and conditions that present a potential hazard to pedestrian safety; and must have the ability to get be at their assigned posts on time.

Location: Satellite Beach Police Department

This position is responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of state laws and city ordinances including detection and apprehension of suspected violators.   This work involves an element of personal danger and frequent contact with the public under emergency and non-emergency conditions. This officer may be assigned to various types of duty and shift hours in accordance with department needs. The officer is assigned to a superior officer who they will receive work instructions and assignments from. The officer is required to maintain several certificates as required by F.D.L.E. and department needs including Human Diversity, firearms, and C. P. R. training.

Physical Requirements include, but are not limited to:  Manual and finger dexterity, flexibility of upper body and limbs, general strength in upper and lower body, legs, back, arms, fingers, and hands, coordination in legs, arms, hands, eye-hand; steadiness of hand/arm, physical endurance, quick reflexes, cardiovascular strength, ability to run, walk, swim, climb, crawl, bend/lean over, twist/turn, use of two hands simultaneously, balance/equilibrium, ability to tolerate moderate pain, ability to lift 150 pound objects 100 feet in an emergency.

Minimum Education: Must be a high school graduate or possess a state equivalency diploma.  Certificate of Completion of Certificate of Compliance in basic law enforcement training with the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission or must successfully complete academy training to become certified according to state regulations.

The Satellite Beach Police Department requires that a law enforcement candidate must:

·    Be US citizens, by birth or naturalization
·    Be at least 19 years old
·    Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent 
·    Pass a background investigation
·    Not have any felony convictions nor disqualifying misdemeanors
·    Possess a valid Florida driver’s license
·    Must have documentation of processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency
·    Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or certified advanced registered nurse practitioner Must pass the vision, medical, psychological, and fitness evaluations and a polygraph test)
·    Must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
·    Have an Honorable Discharge (if a military veteran) from the Armed Forces of the United States

Starting Salary: Fire Fighter EMT will start at $49,746.83;
 Fire Fighter Paramedic $58,723.10 
(Pay rates include holiday pay and premium pay)
$7,000 Sign on Bonus for State Certified Medic
$3,500 for EMT who completes Medic School and Solo Process

Department Overview:  Satellite Beach Fire Department provides fire, EMS, community medic, and technical rescue services to a beachside community of approximately 10,000 residents.  Personnel enjoy an aggressive training program and are a part of a team providing a high-level of service to residents.

The Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for a variety of daily operational and response level activities of the Fire Department. Daily operations involve training, EMS and fire equipment inspection and maintenance, public relations, pre-fire planning, report completion, community medic tasks and other duties as assigned.  This position will be involved in fire and/or medical operations. The position may serve in an engineer capacity and be responsible for fire apparatus operation, including driving to the scene and pump operation as needed. The position may be assigned incident control tasks and may be involved in direct care and treatment of patients involved in accidents, suffering illness, injury, cardiac event and the like. In addition, responsibilities may include mitigation and control of hazardous material incidents as well as technical or water rescues.

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida Operator's License without restrictions other than corrective lenses. Must be a Florida Certified Firefighter II with State Compliance, Florida State Certified Paramedic, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and have completed a 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operators Course.  As a condition of employment, the selected candidate agrees to achieve Fire Service Hydraulics and Fire Apparatus Operator status as approved through the Florida State Fire College. 

Physical Requirements: Able to meet the physical and medical requirements of NFPA 1582, to endure/sustain physical activity under severe conditions, lift and carry 45 pounds or greater, and swim 100 yards while wearing a personal floatation device.

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of the city recreational swim program by preventing and responding to emergencies. 

SUPERVISION: Swim Program Manager, Recreation Director

HOURS: Approximately 10-15 hours per week. 

QUALIFICATIONS: American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED Certifications. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Punctuality. Dependability – follow through. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain constant surveillance of patrons at the facility. Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Identify potential accident hazards. Enforce all pool rules in a consistent manner. Ensure compliance with Satellite Beach Recreation Department policies and procedures. Attend mandatory in-service training and meetings for swim staff. Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

HOURS: Approximately 10-15 hours per week. 

QUALIFICATIONS: American Red Cross certification in Water Safety Instruction (WSI), First Aid and CPR. Punctuality. Dependability – follow through. Attention to detail and ability to accept direction. Positive image and tidy appearance. Effective communication skills. Flexibility. Ability to interact with the Public. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course material effectively. Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe. Assess abilities of students to ensure each student is placed in the appropriate level. Be in the water, getting fully wet, with all classes. Guide swim assistants in the proper performance of instructor duties. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents in a professional manner, to ensure they are aware of progress. Refer any difficult situations to the manager. Ensure compliance with Satellite Beach Recreation Department policies and procedures. Correspond through written and verbal communications. Attend scheduled staff trainings and meetings.
